Manda’s credibility questioned

One of the country’s seasoned tacticians Yasin Osman has warned coach Charles Manda that he risks losing his credibility because of the manner he is conducting himself.

Osman was reacting to the controversy surrounding Manda’s moves from Football Association of Malawi (FAM), where he was recruited as development officer, and recently at Mighty Wanderers where he was nearly taken on board as assistant coach.

Online media reports on Thursday reported that the Nomads assistant coach has secured a job with Swaziland top outfit Manzini Wanderers as head coach.

Apparently, the revelation came just a day after Wanderers chairperson George Chamangwana claimed that Manda had not been reporting for duties for two weeks and that his whereabouts were not known. He was also dismissed by FAM just slightly over a month ago for similar reasons.

“He is putting his credibility at risk. He already lost FAM’s trust and now it is Wanderers. Manda needs to realise that while he is free to work where he wants, he has to conduct himself as a professional by following the proper procedures,” said Osman.

He said the fact that Manda did not have a contract with the Nomads was no guarantee for him to leave in the manner he did.

“He should also realise that at some point he will need references from FAM and Wanderers and he may also want to return. It is always advisable not to burn your bridges,” said Osman.

Manzini managing director Mduduzi Mabila was quoted by Nyasa Times as saying the club wants to get “back to basics” under their new coach.

“We are delighted to confirm Charles Manda as our new coach,” Mabila told Nyasa Times.

He said Manda, who was coaching Malawi Super League side Mighty Wanderers, started his duties as new Manzini Wanderers coach after agreeing on a year renewable performance-based contract with an option for a two-year renewal.

Manda told the Swazi Observer that he is happy to have finally joined the team after a failed attempt in 2010.

“Kinnah Phiri recruited me to Wanderers in 2010, but unfortunately, the deal could not materialise at the time. As fate would have it, my move has finally happened and I cannot describe my delight at being in Swaziland at Manzini,” he was quoted as saying.

The coach hinted that he could bring good players from Malawi.
